Halo Reach Weekly Challenge 24/01/2011 Winter Contingency: LASO

Winter Contingency: LASO – Complete Winter Contingency, Legendary, All Skulls On (LASO) – 12,500cR

Update: Don't, whatever you do, do this on Co-op. I spent 2-3 hours on this mission, realising I could do it in 20 mins solo. Follow the plan up until you enter the final room. Then, take out the Grunts, all that'll be left is the Sword Elite. With him, you want to jump up on the pipes along the wall the only danger are Plama Grenades (Still a major problem but less so that you getting sliced).

General Hints & Tips:

I am currently doing a run through so I'll let you know how that goes.

Blue tac, or something like that to put a little dot where your cross-hair is can be life saving.

Health Replenishes your shields but you can only use Health Packs if your wounded. Be prepared to grenade yourself a bit.

Use your ears and the vehicle to see if youve got shields. That pop is you loosing them and those glowing sparks you see are also an indication

Walkthrough:

Bit of a challenge this one. Worthy of the weekly title. Annoyingly, this does also ask for all Silver Skulls, so with blind activated, it's not so much a case of, where am I aiming, it's how much health do I have.

Same tactic though, you need to run through 99% of the mission. Fighting comes at the end. Till then, once again, after you reach the first enemies, stick to the right and sneak past everything, Same again in the truck. Then when it comes to the drop ships, take out the first grunts. After that, hide from afar and snipe with your pistol. Let Jorge & Carter take the full brunt. Then when you reach the facility, get inside and stay in the far back corner, away from the hole where grenades and Fuel Rods can enter through.

Mini Update:

Once you enter the Hold with Jorge, stay back. Kill the Grunts and Jackals by exploding the fuel tanks. Once that's done, let Jorge move up and take on the Elite. Provide covering fire with the DMR and keep picking away at his shield. Once that's gone you can then hit him in the head with a DMR/Pistol shot. As he spent all his time focusing on Jorge you'll be down one Elite and with Full(Ish) health.

Then you need to move on with a Plasma Pistol. After carefully taking out the Grunts in the hallway (Be careful of Grenades) take out the Grunts that exit the building. Once that's done, all you'll have left is the Sword Elite. Plasma Pistol the hell out of him and run back to Jorge, Keep putting fire on him and jump off the ledge if needs be. Grab another Plasma Pistol if you have the time and keep unleashing until his shields are no more. Then get that headshot.

Annoyingly when I did this, his last act was to stick me. All enemies dead, as was I. Back to start :|

  3. Holy Moly this sounds tough. Looking forward to giving it a go later! I'm guessing I'm basically gonna do nothing and let Jorge carry me.

  4. If it's the landing zone where you have the 3 drop ships. After the truck driving bit, all I can suggest is to restart the mission (Back to main menu) and then try again. It's not something I've encountered before. The only other suggestion I can make is to take out the grunts quickly before that (Though not a good idea with all these skulls on Legendary)

  5. Hey I'm on the last part against the tree Zealots, any tips on killing them? They sponge all DMR/Shotgun I put into them and it takes 4-6 swords slices on the other Zealots if I manage to kill the sword zealot.

  6. i can get to the very last bit wer the two zealots are that part is impossiblee you get spammed by plasma grenades and the gay alien grenade launcher thing

  8. So you're saying I should restart because I have three of them at the end?

  9. No, not because you have 3. If the game was glitched beyond repair and you were stuck. 3 Elites just requires more planning.

  10. ok guys ive already done it but ... the end bit ... this is how you do it.....

kill the 4 grunts... push jorge out near the up/down computer mainframe with the fork lift...

park the forklift sideways on the corridor soo jorge wont try return.... lure the sword elite out then jump over the forklift...

once jorge takes the sword guy out.. take sword... grab the bubble shield down near the healthpack and shotgun....

Move into the area with the 1 or 2 elites using concussion (more then likely 2 because you CANNOT take out with the DMRs at the start... it will take a minimum of 45 rounds to his face if ur lucky enough to get killed or have him run off anyway...

weave in and out of the up/down mainframes... plant the shield near the door to the switch....
lunge out then backpace back in... your shields will recharge and ur health while ur inside....

the shield should last long enough to get the 2

  11. For the last zealot with the energy sword, just draw his attention then run like hell to Jorge. Jump off the ledge or go up the left ramp when the you get near your Spartan partner, and the zealot will focus on him. Then just shoot and grenade from afar.

  14. Just got to ask (I have yet to attempt this) what's the problem with doing it co-op? Is it just because you both need to co-ordinate, or do you not get the challenge?
I was going to get my friend to help so that the Iron skull won't be so painful.

  15. @Emayai It might have just been because the friend I tried to do it with had a guest who enjoyed the forklift a tad too much. But the other reason is that although more friends = more fire-power, it also spawns more enemies.

Rather than have the 2 Elites, we had 3 and attempting to keep everyone alive was troublesome as there were limited Health Packs to go around.

Co-op isn't so bad provided you know what you're doing.

  16. Tried this the other night (and failed horribly). I can get right through the level no problem, and even take out the sword-wielding elite easily (wait for him to attack Jorge then assassinate). I just can't take out the concussion-spamming, 300-mph-plamsa-grenade-hurling elite. Jorge keeps running away form him and whenever I get close enough to fire accurate plasma shots the elite either goes back inot cover or murders me in the face. Just seen the comment about the drop shield though so might have to try that tonight! Anyone else got any tips for taking that final elite out?

  17. Oh and I'm just regurgitating something else I've heard on teh intarwebs so it might be a load of crap, but apparently saving and quitting doesn't ruin the challenge. If this is true I guess you can just save & quit before taking on the final elites, so if something starts going horribly wrong (i.e. grenade is stuck to your foot - you are going to die), just quit and start again from the last checkpoint. Gonna try this as well tonight, will post again if it works.

  18. Just did it! The saving/quitting tactic whenever you die seems to work - it doesn't stop the challenge. I used the bubble shield/sword combo that an anonymous poster suggested above, and just kept on going until I took the last elite down.

Bare in mind you can't actually see when you get a checkpoint due to the lack of visible HUD. In the end I managed to get a checkpoint just after I killed the sword elite, leaving nothing but the final concussion rifle elite left.

Hope that helps everyone else trying to get this challenge.
